Feeling good about your drink – that’s Rebottleds’ goal. The two founders Jermain van der Graaf and Juan Diego Flores thought it a waste to immediately throw away empty bottles of wine. They came up with the idea of turning those empty bottles into design glassware. With success – because they now make cool looking glasses ánd lamps. Read their impressive story.
What inspired you to start Rebottled?
Jermain & Juan were surprised that there is a deposit on beer bottles but not on wine bottles. The goal was to combat glass waste in the most social and sustainable way possible and to make a visual and lasting impact on people ánd the world. Did you know that 440 million wine bottles in the Netherlands are thrown away each year after only being used once, while beer bottles can be reused up to 40 times?
In what way does Rebottled contribute to a better world?
150 grams of CO2 and 150 liters of water are saved per glass (!). We also work together with UW (Utrecht Werkt) where we help people with a disadvantage in the labor market find meaningful work.
What is your mission?
Our mission is to start a revolution in the glass industry and to combat glass waste. Our ultimate goal is that customers can hand in their bottles to us so that everyone can contribute.
What are you most proud of so far?
What we are most proud of is that we have made the entire wine bottle circular. The top is used to make lamps and the bottom is used for cool drinking glasses. The Netherlands wants to become fully circular by 2050 and we are making a significant contribution to that. 🙂
